A funny thing happened at the store that day (and many happy birthdays)
i realized last night that i hadn't posted on here in a while. and since for some of you this is the only way that you know anything about our lives (ahem), i thought i would update it. unfortunately there has been none too much excitment around here. and while yes, i realize that the blog doesn't have to be exciting, it sure does help for readership, no? just like pictures, right laura?
well, let's see. john and i are in the process of purchasing items for our house. it's handy because it can be a slow process thanks to living in a furnished place. it's not easy though, because we are living in a furnished place. we're trying to figure out what to buy, when, colours, etc. which is tricky when you don't know what kind of place you'll be moving into in a few months. no need to buy a bed with boxspring if you're going to have to cut it just so you can get it upstairs, eh lauren? that being said, we are looking and have been exploring.
on the weekend, we went up to osborne park, which would be somewhat like ancaster but not nearly as organized. shops are all over the place, no street lights, tons of line ups are you are trying to turn into another parking lot. very few sidewalks and poorly set up at that. but then i suppose no one walks these days anyhow, right? we perused ikea, bought some light bulbs for the lamps that i bought the week before (and forgot to buy bulbs for), only to get home and discover that we bought the wrong size! urgh. nothing like going to ikea 3 weeks in a row.
while we were up in osborne park, we went into one furniture shop and explored some of the couches (aka lounges). it was the end of the day, and we were getting quite savvy about things. so i asked the shop-guy "what's the stain resistance like" to which he says "it's ok. i mean, you have to catch it pretty quickly but it's good". so i said "oh, so if i spilled some pop on it or something, it'd be ok". the man looks at me and goes "what? smokes pot on it". john and i started laughing. turns out, you don't say pop. you say soft drink. or fizzy drink. or cool drink. but say pop and they have no freakin' clue. which i find odd, because they abbreviate every other freakin' word you can think of but not "soft drink". anyhow, we had a good chuckle about that. "what? smokes pot?" too funny!
john's been plowing away at school. he has finished up his midterms and starts finals in a few weeks. then gets an obscene amount of time off between semesters. he's hoping to work full time at his gym during his break, contributing to the "john and michelle would like to go travel" fund or more importantly to the "john and michelle need to pay off loans" fund. the first is more fun, the latter more , uhm, daunting if you will.
you know what's kind of challenging when you move? finding a new hairstylist. no, really, i mean it. you know, you work hard at finding one that you like, stick with them for as long as you can. then you move and you have to start all over. i'm putting it off because i miss my stylist from hamilton (sigh). but my hair is so long right now, it's almost ridiculous. truly fascinating tidbit, no?
on other news, i am starting to play ultimate frisbee league on wednesday night. hopefully this all goes well. i'm playing with a few girls from my nationals team, so that'll be fun. and we start training on monday nights again. gotta get in shape for next year...
and in other, other news... i gave 6 weeks notice to my boss today. yup, i'm leaving. i'm fed up with commuting to a clinic that i'm not excited to be working at. if it were a great place, i'd be ok. if it were closer, i'd be ok. but the combo of both is just a no go. there are a variety of job postings up right now, as well as some locum work, so i'm going to start trotting around town with my newly revamped resume and see what i can muster up. may take the last week in june off and hopefully drive south or noth and spend a fun week with john exploring WA (that's Western Australia, just in case you're wondering... see, another abbreviation).
i have many happy birthdays to toss around here. to my mom, first and foremost. then to jenn, helena and adam. may is possibly my most ridiculous birthday month (followed closely by february). i hope you've all had wonderful days and were all spoiled rotten :)
miss you all!
xo

Hey hun, I've been forgetting to check on here, what with the keeping in touch on Facebook. So I just caught up on the nationals and all your other tidbits.
I totally hear you on the hair...good luck with that!
Congrats on giving your notice. It sounds like it wasn't the ideal place for you, so good luck finding it! Miss you tons. Can't wait to come visit.
xoxo
